Dixon Illinois is located in Lee County and is named after a family who bought the Post office and rope ferry service from the first permanent settler Joseph Ogee a man of French and Native American descent. It was called North Dixon for and under the direction of John Dixon as there was several named towns came and went either in the current boundaries of Dixon or in close proximity like Burlington & was also know as the Town of Oporto prior to 1840. The first store was started by Chapman & Hamilton in an addition to Father Dixon's log house. March 7, 1853, Dixon was incorporated as a town (not city). The first Trustees were John Dixon, A. L. Porter, P. M. Alexander, Lorenso Wood and L. Wynkoop. One historical attraction is a house that our 40th President of the United States Ronald Reagan grew up in. Also a replica of a piece of the Berlin wall sits in Dixon because of the impact Reagan had in helping the wall be taken down, giving freedom for many in Eastern Europe communists USSR control. Even President Lincoln enlists to help right in Dixon area. Many visit Dixon to enjoy the many acres of parks and Green spaces like Lowell Park's 200 acres which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Rural Meadows Park which encompasses 567 acres with many recreational opportunities with natural areas and farm land plus neighborhood parks located throughout the city.
